Mahakali: Goddess of this Age
The last two-thousand years of every Cycle of Ages is known as a Kali Yuga, and Mahakali oversees each of these "end time" periods. Simply put, She destroys the decadence that has run rampant over the earth, and frees us of the bondage in which we as humans have become imprisoned. Mahakali does this by destroying the traditions, in all areas of life, that have robbed us of our freedom. These traditions, are religious, social, familial, relational, business-related and personal in nature. And, they no longer serve us or the earth.
The last thirteen years of the Kali Yuga are known as the Days of Transition, and this period has 1.5 years to go at the time of this writing. When it is over, most of the world will go kicking and screaming in protest into the Golden Age, and this includes the New Age light workers who claim to look forward to it. Why? Because they enjoy their decadence and complexity of life, they are used to it, and they don't want to give it up.
History, archeology and anthropology have proven that Mahakali is the oldest of the known deities on the face of the earth, and that Ganesha (Her son) and Mahakala (Her consort) are jointly the second oldest. The Hindus call Her Kali, we Cherokees call Her Monolah (Mother Earth), the Christians embody Her within the Black Madonna, and every other religion on the face of the earth has some name or concept that represents her. In ancient MU, She was known as Amara-Omni.
Not only is Mahakali the oldest Goddess in the world, but She is the most maligned as well. She is revered as the Goddess of the Shamans, and we truly honor Her in every way. The Hindus also give Her the honor She is due even though they split Her into ten parts as the Wisdom Goddesses, and yet still honor Her entirety as Mahakali. However, the Hindus were also afraid of Her until just over two thousand years ago, and tried to relegate Her to a minor role because of thiner fear until the approaching Kali Yuga forced them to change thiner actions. The Tibetan Buddhists have so feared Her that they have split her into four parts, and removed Her name, and the Christians have feared and hated Her the most of all.
The Church has long sought to slander and defame the Goddess by focusing on the seemingly darkest of the myths concerning Her which they have taken completely out of context, and which they have chosen to arrogantly interpret within the views and beliefs of western culture rather than the eastern culture in which Her wisdom has been preserved. That being said, there are now two books which show the truth of who She is. We will cover the oldest first, and the best last.
The oldest is "The Book of Kali" by Seema Mohanty. She begins the book with the following statement: "Her outstretched tongue distinguishes her from all other goddesses in the Hindu pantheon. Her nakedness, unbound hair, association with blood and gore, and unbridled sexuality challenge conventional ideas of divinity. So much so that to the uninformed eye Kali appears less as a manifestation of the divine, and more as a bloodthirsty ogress - a patron of thugs and sorcerers."
This book was last published in 2004 by Penguin Books of India. The ISBN is 0-67-005773-8, and you can find it on thiner website at www.penguinbooksindia.com. It is an excellent primer for beginning to develop an understanding of Mahakali, and has samples of artwork concerning Her that help to graphically illustrate what is written about in the text. My personal suggestion is that you read this book first to get a basic overview of Kali as the Hindu world knows her.
The second book is written by Shambhavi L. Chopra, and is entitled "Yogic Secrets of the Dark Goddess". Published by Wisdom Tree, this book gives the truth about Mahakali like nothing else available in this world short of personal experience. Whether you are a curious seeker of the truth or a Kali devotee of many years, this book will enrich your understanding of the primal Goddess from whom all of Creation has been born. The description on the back of the book says it far better than I can:

When you meditate upon Mahakali in the depths of her Darkest form you find yourself in a place called the Void. The Void is the heart of the Great Mother Goddess, and it is filled with Unmanifest Energy. At first you are surrounded by Darkness that is blacker than the darkest night, and then you begin to "see" something different. Far away, at the edge of Night, you begin to see the beginnings of Light! Darkness is Unmanifest Energy, and all true Light comes out of Darkness.
All of the many Kali statues we have today come from one that was first carved to represent the Mahakali High Priestess four Cycles of Ages ago. Before that, people honored Kali by worshiping Her in the darkness of the New Moon when there was no other light to be seen in the world as all fires were either extinguished or hidden, and new fires were kindled at dawn.
At that time the Mahakali High Priestess, named Ismiradoo, had become ill and was dying so a statue was carved to represent her Blessing the people of the Himalayas when she was unable to leave her bed. Later, people began carving copies of the statue, and they began using it to represent Kali after Ismiradoo had died. The original statues were naked, black with a red tongue, two arms with red palms on the hands and two legs with red soles on the feet. And, the necklace was the first of the Mahakali Storm/Tantric Rudra necklaces which is currently owned by Raven Mahakali.
Neither Ismiradoo nor Mahakali had ever intended for the statues to be used in this way. Mahakali still remains as the Goddess of the Night, Time and the Great Void, and it is impossible to completely represent Her grandeur and power in the confines of even a thousand different statues.
The Great Mother Kali was created by what we know as the Original Mind, which is neither female nor male, and which created one thing only: the spirit we know as the Divine Feminine or the Great Mother. All of the rest of Creation was birthed out of Her as birthing is women's business and only peripherally the business of men.
We honor the Great Mother Kali for what She does in our lives, and we also honor Her by following Her example and giving our highest worship and praise to the Original Mind who is the Great Light at the edge of the Void. In doing so then we gain the ability to bring our own Light of Creation out of the Unmanifest Energy of the Void of Mahakali.
MAHAKALI: The Principal among Mahavidya Sadhanas
(NOTE: These instructions come from a Vedic source. Notes have been added by Prajna Shiva Kalidasa to display a Shamanic version of it in keeping with the ancient matriarchal form of practice given to us by Goddess Mahakali long before the founding of the patriarchal religions 10,000 years ago.)
Sadhana of Mahakali, the most superior among ten Mahavidyas of Tantra, is like Kalpavriksha which confers early success in this Kali Yuga. The aspirant, having perfected this Sadhana does not face any kind of necessity in his life and attaining full sovereignty and final beatitude, he incurs the fulfillment of human birth.
This article is presented by Yogiraj Kalidasan and is a torch bearer for the readers in the light of which they can march ahead towards totality.
Significance
There are millions of Sadhana practices existing over the earth but the Sadhana of Ten Mahavidyas (The Eternal Mother Forces) has been presumed to be the greatest attainment. Among these ten, the Sadhana of Mahakali occupies the pivotal position. Since time immemorial this Sadhana has had been performed by the Yogis and ascetics. The aspirants of high order cherish a desire to perform Mahakali Sadhana by all means in their life. This Sadhana evokes innumerable advantages but the following results confirmed by attained aspirants, are realized instantly after the accomplishment of the Sadhana-
"Atha Kalimantraye Sadyovaksiddhiprapyivan Aravitairyah Sarvestam Prapnuvanti Jana Bhuvih."
1. It implies that an aspirant having perfected Mahakali Sadhana attains 'Vak Siddhi' (power of materializing the words whether it be a blessing or curse) and also attains the desired results in all the three realms.
2. This Sadhana emancipates the aspirant from all kinds of ailments.
3. On one hand this Sadhana bestows all kinds of material bliss and on the other hand it also confers final beatitude after paying the debt of nature.
4. No Sadhana is superior to this Sadhana for the annihilation of enemies, victory in law suits and security from all sides.
5. Since this Sadhana is one among Ten Mahavidyas, perfection of this opens the door for entrance into the majestic Siddhashram.
6. An early financial improvement and possession of manly vigor is possible through this Sadhana.
7. According to 'Kali Putro Falahpradah'. this Sadhana is ideal for the attainment of a competent son and also for ensuring the longevity, prosperity and security of the son. (According to Goddess Mahakali, it will also gain for you an exceptional daughter who will carry the highest essence of the Great Mother within her at all times Blessing all who see her naked form. And, this daughter can be both physically from you, or spiritual in nature.)
In reality Kali Sadhana, highly extolled by all spiritual scholars, dispels all the deficiencies of life and leads the aspirant on the crest of a wave.
Auspicious Time:
Navaratri (the first nine days of the bright half of Aswin or Chaitra) is the ideal period for accomplishment of a Mahavidya Sadhana & therefore it is an advice to the aspirants that they should choose this auspicious period for performing Mahakali Sadhana.
A Simple Sadhana:
In spite of being the fundamental Sadhana of Tantra, the Sadhana of Mahakali is simple & devoid of intricacies. Moreover this Sadhana involves no adverse effect of any kind.
Mahakali Sadhana in real sense is a Sadhana for householders. No kind of discrimination exists for its performance. Any individual whether man or woman, scholar or illiterate, ascetic or householder, can accomplish this Sadhana. What I want to stress is that any person, desirous of leading an exalted & contented life must utilize Navaratri' period for performance of Mahakali Sadhana.
Rules for Sadhana:
1. You must install before you the consecrated & energized Yantra & picture of Mahakali.
2. On the first day, after worshipping & contemplating on the Goddess, you should start the recitation of the Mantra. You are free to perform either mental worship or worshipping with five articles (kumkum, flowers, incense, lamp & prasad).
3. Avoid the use of cot or bed. You should retire on the ground.
4. Meal should be taken only once a day & that also vegetarian diet without adding garlic or onion. (The vegetarian aspect is a Vedic requirement often ignored by Shamans).
Perceptions:
On the third day of the Sadhana, the aspirant, while chanting the Mantra, may experience an intoxicating smell in his room. On the fifth day, he may hear the tinkling sound of bells & on the eighth day, he is presumed to realize the magnificent appearance of the Goddess Mahakali. The condition for such divine perception is the performance of Sadhana with full devotion, fidelity & in methodical manner.
Method:
On the first morning, after taking your bath, wear a sacred apparel (Aghori and Shamans wear nothing) & while facing towards East, be postured on your mat. Install the Yantra & picture of Goddess Mahakali before you & rekindle the lamp of clarified butter. First perform the worship of Lord Ganapati (Ganesha) & then of the Guru. Thereafter, worship the Yantra & picture.
Now take some water in your right hand & recite that till a particular day, you will complete one lakh (100,000) recitations to achieve your particular purpose. Speak out the wish which you want to get fulfilled & also the date which you have fixed for completion of your Sadhana. Also implore the Goddess for granting strength so that you may come out victorious in your endeavor. Reciting in such a manner, pour out the water in your palm onto the ground. You are not required to repeat this recitation everyday.
Now contemplate on Mahakali as given below-
Savaruhaammahabhimaghoradanshtram Hasanmukhim. Chaturbhujamkhadagmundavarabhayakaram Shivam (1) Mundamaladharamdevi Lolajihvandigambaram. Evam Sanchintayetkalim Shamasanalayavsinim (2)
Thereafter, using the rosary of Rudraksha (Tibetan and Nepalese Shamans often use turquoise skull malas) complete at least Twenty one rounds of rosary everyday. However you should do same number of rosary rounds daily till the total number of Mantra recitations becomes One Lakh (One Hundred Thousand). The Right-Hand Path mantra for recitation is-

Navaratri 2014 Dates - From 25 September 2014 to 3 October 2014
The Navaratri commences on the first day (pratipada) of the bright fortnight of the lunar month of Aswin. The festival is celebrated for nine nights once every year during the beginning of October, although as the dates of the festival are determined according to the lunar calendar, the festival may be held for a day more or a day less.
Eat no grain or wheat during these nine days.
